EMCOR Government Services (EGS), a division of EMCOR Group, looked to convert their current classroom training into an e-learning course covering the labor reporting policies and procedures outlined in the Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) Manual. The course was to target every employee who participated in timekeeping (roughly 2000 participants per year), with a separate module for managers.

Challenges

  • Meet compliance requirements for timekeeping measures at the organization
  • Convert current instructor-led training into e-learning in both online and CD format (for those without internet access)
  • Develop standardized training content that conveys the value of accurate time entry and management

Approach

  • Create a 75-minute course that presents the timekeeping requirements, shows demos of the timekeeping software and explains how to access relevant source documents
  • Use an instructional design approach that teaches the software based on job task performance
  • Provide SCORM-compliant tracking and a custom certificate users can print after passing the course assessment

Results

  • Self-paced training providing standardized content and delivery, ensuring all learners receive a consistent learning experience
  • A course to meet government certification requirements, since every employee and manager who records labor charges needs to acknowledge that they understand the rules
  • Two delivery formats (online and on CD) for a single course, which saved time and provided a more uniform way to track completion
